SPELL-o-MANIA- BE SPELL-BOUND!

An Inter-House Spell-o-Mania was organized for the students of Classes VI to VIII on 3rd May, 2023 at BVM School.

Great zeal was witnessed among all the participants. All the students gave their best to make their house win. Tagore House was declared the winner and Patel House bagged the First Runner-up Position.

LOGIC, RESONING AND VOCABULARY- CROSSWORD!

As a part of English Week- Global Activity- Crossword- was conducted for Classes VI- VIII on 29th April, 2023 at BVM School.

Crossword puzzles are a great way to learn vocabulary, practise spelling words, and even enhance logical reasoning. It was an enriching learning experience wherein the students participated with great zeal.

ENGLISH POEM RECITATION

An Inter-house Poetry Recitation Competition was organized on 1st May,2023 at BVM School.

Beauty is the realm of poetry; the students of III -V classes enthusiastically participated in the competition as they got an opportunity to exhibit their talent and confidence. The participants from all the respective four houses left no stone unturned to win for their house. The young poets enthralled the audience with their articulation and memory skills while reciting poems. It was a splendid opportunity for them to gain confidence through stage exposure. 

The judges appreciated and applauded the performances of the participants.

STORY – TELLING COMPETITION

As a part of the English Week celebrations in our school, a “Story-Telling Competition” was organized on 2nd May, 2023 for the students of Class ll. It was a wonderful experience as the students narrated different stories with expression and proper pronunciation. Vibrant props added flavour to their narration.

JUST A MINUTE

A Just a Minute Competition was organized for the students of class I on 28th October 2022.The students presented their views on the current month theme “Spacewalk”. The budding speakers used vibrant props to depict the theme. The preliminary round of the competition was conducted on 19th October 2022; wherein the best entries were selected by the respective Class Teachers. The final round of the competition was graced by Academic Director Ma’am and Head Mistress Ma’am. Spontaneity and confidence were the hallmarks of the competition. The judges praised the students for their wonderful presentation and efforts. The students left everyone awe-struck as they presented their views so immaculately and effortlessly.

THE BOOK OF PROVERBS

The Book of Proverbs Activity was organized for the students of class I on 17th August 2022 in the zero period in their respective classrooms. The blooming buds of class I confidently presented a proverb along with its meaning in the class. The activity not only enhanced the oratory skills of the young learners but also boosted their confidence.It was a great source of learning for the students.

SHOW AND TELL

A Show and Tell Activity was held on 10th February 2020 for the students of Class I. The topic was based on the current monthly theme of “Extinct and Endangered species”. The activity was conducted in the zero period in the respective classrooms. The students brought colourful pictures and toys of several extinct and endangered species to share with the class. They used innovative ways to describe it with a lot of confidence and expression. The activity gave each child a chance to present their views in front of their peer group. The main aim of the activity was to develop their social, emotional and language skills; along with enhancing their knowledge.

ORIGAMI COMPETITION

An Origami Competition was organized for the students of Class 1 on 22 November 2019. The competition was held in the respective classrooms. The tiny hands transformed flat sheet of paper into finished creations through folding and sculpting. Several unique items were created by the students, which included flowers, water animals, hut, bird, fish etc. The young artists beautifully showcased their finesse in paper folding. The students were judged on their creativity, imagination, neatness and originality. The competition was not only a fun filled experience but it also proved to be a valuable tool to develop artistic skills of the students. All the winners were awarded certificates to acknowledge their talent.

Summary: Each student of the class participated in the various acts. The topic of skit was Life history of Gregor J. Mendel (Father of Genetics) and hardship of his life was described along with his never dying enthusiasm. It was started with morning devotion, followed by a self-composed poem on “Virus” by Himanshi Sharma. Choir group gave a beautiful presentation with a motivational theme song. Dance was performed on Alan Walkar’s songs.

The Academic Director appreciated the overall scientific outlook of the assembly, along with the creative approach adopted to present such a topic, as it is with such creative approaches that we can generate more student engagement and retention of knowledge.

FRUIT AND SALAD DECORATION ACTIVITY

A Fruit and Salad Decoration Activity was organized for the students of Class 1 on the occasion of World Food Day. The activity was organized on 16th October, 2019 in their respective classrooms. The students prepared salads using commonly available ingredients. The students were explained the importance of including salad in their regular diet for maintaining good health. The main focus of the activity was not only on the preparation of the salad but also on the unique presentation of the salad. Equal emphasis was laid on the hygienic considerations which were to be kept in mind while preparing and dressing the final salad. Our little Chefs really came up with several delicious salads using the various seasonal vegetables and fruits. The children really enjoyed the activity very much. Making salad eating a routine habit for enabling them to maintain a healthy lifestyle, was emphasized on them.

ENGLISH WEEK

‘English language is a strange paradise. It's where fish flies and sparrow swims.’

The school celebrated the English Week ‘Reflections’ where linguistic skills polishing sessions with fun-filled activities were organized for the students of Classes 4th and 5th on 26th, 27th, 28th and 29th August. An array of events was conducted to motivate the students and make learning more enjoyable for them. On 26th August, students did an activity on ‘Sentence Building’ to enhance their grammatical concepts, on the 27th, they played a ‘Scrabble Game’ in the class to enhance their vocabulary skills, on 28th, students did an activity ‘Twist the Tale’ in which they wrote a summary of the books issued to them from the class library which ultimately enhanced their writing skills.

An Inter house Declamation Competition was conducted on 29th August for the students to enhance the speaking skills of the students. All the rounds were taken in the class enabling every student of Classes 4 and 5 to participate in the event. This competition served as an ideal platform for facilitating an exchange of ideas among the student fraternity.

The dynamic participants were made to present their views on diverse topics within the given time limit. They displayed confidence, enthusiasm and awareness while participating in the competition. All the active competitors were loudly cheered and supported by their fellow House members.

The Academic Director along with Headmistress congratulated and appreciated the efforts put in by the young, energetic, eloquent and persuasive orators .

They also praised the efforts of the English Department and congratulated the students for their wonderful performance.

Learning a language helps one to effectively communicate with and better understand others. In BVM, it is no different. Our English teachers planned a plethora of interesting activities during the English week (26 August 2019 - 30 August 2019) to help our students to deepen their understanding of the English language and apply it to their daily lives. These activities provide a more holistic approach to teaching and learning. It ignited and fueled new interest in creative writing and speaking.

The week kicked off on Monday, 26 August 2019 with an activity ‘The Literary warriors’ and Literary Club Activity ‘Declamation’ (First round). It was followed by Fastest Finger First in which students detected words belonging to different parts of speech from huge word bank. Along with it students of Class IX-XI put forward their views on ‘ARTICLE 370’ through Article writing.

The radiant feeling and excitement continued to the following day with lots of activities .In Primary, A Spell Bee Competition was organized to enable the students to ameliorate their spellings, magnify their word bank and recapitulate phonic sounds.. Calligraphy and Paragraph writing was conducted to teach them skills for positioning and inscribing words so they show integrity, harmony, some sort of ancestry, rhythm and creative fire. The students were also engaged in a Scrabble Game activity which proved to be a vital tool in not only enhancing their active vocabulary but also helped them to learn spellings in a distinctive manner. While Classes VI-VII with full exhilaration performed Sentence building activity. The ability to form complete sentences is a building block for both speech and writing, so was the aim of the activity. Students were given number of words from different parts of speech to frame sentences using them.

Then next day, Literary Club Activity ‘THE BOOK OF PROVERBS’ and ‘WORD CHAIN’ were conducted. In “The Book of Proverbs” the child had to present one proverb along with its meaning. And In Word chain the student had to think of a word, speak it out and the next child formed a new word with the last alphabet of the previous word.Other than this ‘TWIST THE TALE’ was conducted, in which they wrote a summary of the book which they have already read, with different and their own end which ultimately enhanced their writing skills.A mind boggling activity –CROSSWORD was conducted on the basis of ‘Word of the day’. A crossword puzzle was given to students to enhance, and scrutinize their vocabulary.

Students marked the end of the amazing week with Inter-house Declamation. They brought forth something worth knowing about on the topics-‘Remember you are Mortal.’ And ‘Fix yourself, don’t try to fix others.’ While class 9 with full zeal and proper diction presented their views on ‘Leadership cannot be taught.’ And class 11 highlighted the facts and their views with good composure on ‘Article 370’. Their endeavor and show were worth admiration.

Their dynamic performances were eulogized and lionized by the Academic Director Ma’am, Ms. Pratibha Sharma and Headmistress Ma’am ,Ms Ishita Sharma .They praised the efforts of English department .They also congratulated the students and announced the English week to come to a close.

DECLAMATION COMPETITION

A Literary Club activity - ‘Declamation Competition’ was organised in the school as an inter-class competition for the students of Class III. It aimed to promote opportunities for students to develop themselves as confident speakers of the English language. The competition was organised in two rounds. The first round was held in the respective classes on 26th August. Students expressed their views within a minute and thirty seconds on interesting topics like - ‘Gadgets have restricted children’s imagination’ and ‘Ten years leap in the state of glaciers and its impact on the Globe’. Few students from each class were selected for the final round of competition held on 28thAugust. Results were declared and the students were appreciated and applauded for their efforts.

CALLIGRAPHY AND PARAGRAPH WRITING

English week activity - ‘Calligraphy and Paragraph Writing’ was organised in the School for the students of Class III on 27thAugust. The main aim was to help the students to enhance the writing skills of students. Students were asked to write a paragraph in beautiful cursive writing on either topic - ‘If I had a superpower’ or ‘Dream vacation’.

English week activity-‘Scrabble’ was organised in the School for the students of Class III on 30thAugust in the respective classes. Rules of the game were discussed with students and then they played the game in pairs. They made very interesting and new words. This activity helped them explore and expand their vocabulary.

The school celebrated the English Week where many fun learning activities were organized for the students of Class I. An array of activities was conducted with a motive of enhancing vocabulary and language skills.

A Spell Bee Competition was organised on 27th August 2019. The preliminary rounds of the competition were held on 26th August 2019 in the respective classrooms wherein top 5 students were selected from each section. The competition was divided in three rounds i.e. Identify the Word, Spell the Word and Word meaning. The final round of the competition was held in the School Auditorium. The activity enabled the students to improve their spellings, increase their vocabulary and recapitulate phonic sounds. Students efforts and initiative was appreciated by everyone.

A Literary Club Activity “The Book of Proverbs” was organized on 28th August in which the child had to present one proverb along with its meaning in the Class.

The students were engaged in a Scrabble Game activity in the Class on 29th August. The game proved to be an important tool in not only enhancing their vocabulary but also helped them to learn spellings in a unique manner.

All activities aimed at facilitating effective learning and participation of maximum number of students.The children participated earnestly in all the activities.

FANCY DRESS COMPETITION

(The Literary Warriors)

“The eyes are the mirror of the soul, what feels like the end is often the beginning”

Keeping this in view and as a part of the English Week celebrations in our school, a Fancy Dress Competition was organized on 27th August for the students of Class ll to bring to the fore the creativity and on stage performance capabilities of the students. The topic for the same was Book Review of any one Famous English author.

The purpose of conducting the competition was not only to blend learning with fun but also to develop confidence in the students by giving them an opportunity to get on the stage and speak in front of the audience. The first round was held in the classes on 26th August. A few students were selected by the class teachers from each class. And the selected students performed on the stage in the final round held on 27th August.

The children were dressed up in their colourful costumes and spoke a few lines about the book written by the author that they depicted. The effort and hard work of children was highly commendable. The Academic Director awarded the winners. The competition proved to be a great learning experience for the students and gave them a platform to explore their hidden talents.

CLAY PLAY

Clay Moulding is a great way to help children to develop imagination and spark creativity.It enhances the gross motor skills and creativity of the learners. A Clay Moulding Competition was organised for the students of class I on 19th August 2019.The children prepared different models by giving interesting shape to their creativity.The motive of this competition was to stimulate the imagination of the students and to enable them to give it a better shape.This further enhanced their hand and eye coordination,colour recognition and fine motor skills.The students actively participated in the competition and really enjoyed it.

MISSION SHAKTI

School based health awareness, knowledge test and training initiative) ICMR i.e. Indian Council of Medical Research Programme conducted a workshop named “Mission Shakti” in our school on 30th July 2019 on Gandhi ji’s ideas of health and hygiene. A quiz contest was organized on this topic and questions were asked about Gandhi ji’s ideas of morning exercise, balanced diet, hygienic surroundings. The idea was to create awareness among students about these very important aspect of life. The runner team as well as the winner Team were awarded. Our Academic director ma’am and Principal Sir were also felicitated with Momentous.
